about us

factory r is an independent record label based in west virginia. the label began in 2001 by a group of musicians (i.e., a “band”) who wanted to professionally release a record that they had recorded. with a lot of hard work, and with the help of some people close to them, the record was released and the label founded. subsequent releases are typically for projects that this original group of musicians and/or their friends record and want to put out. thus, factory r is a small collective of persons and has more of a family feel rather than a profit-driven business slant. factory r releases are either traditionally-manufactured compact discs, professionally constructed cd-rs with unique packaging, or free downloadable “mp3″ albums (which some seem to think will be the “wave of the futures”).

please do not send us any demos. thank you.

but feel free to contact us via email at factoryr [at] theminustide [dot] com.

please email for our latest “snail mail” location, should you need that reference.

if you are truly (truly) interested in the factory r family, you may also wish to point your browser to www.myspace.com/coleslawrecordingsthe cole slaw recordings label was, in a sense, the admittedly more lo-fi precursor to the factory r phenomenon. m iafrate and drown culture didst receive their starts in such a way. questions related to this label and the availability of its output may be directed to coleslaw [at] catholicanarchy [dot] org.

the minus tide
the rock autopsy has begun cdep

this record, our debut release, is unstoppable. six songs of brutal sci-fi metal-rock which have been getting rave reviews from a variety of sources. apocalyptic sounds of alien invasion with a nod to iron maiden, the locust, and refused. this cd was repressed for a time by action driver records but their version has since gone out of print again. the factory r version is, to your advantage, still very much in print and available for you. the mp3 download version is available through that itunes device, courtesy of action driver.

my terrible twin ep 3.5″ cd-r

dark-ish acoustic songs from the guitarist of the minus tide. six songs on cool mini cd-rs in a handmade sleeve. the cd is now out of print, but it is available for download at www.downloadpunk.com.

drown culture
my best advice for intergalactic trading cd-r

this drown culture record is from space. outer space. great electronic/organic spooky space pop. drown culture is dallas of the minus tide, and the record features some guests including dave and rosie from the minus tide on drums and extra vocals, respectively. destined to be a classic, in this time-line and in others. handmade heavy paper sleeve.

fantastica! phantastica!! phantastika!!! cd-r

another spacey cd-r ep from drown culture… a little more pop. still completely amazing. we wish we spoke better french. handmade heavy paper sleeve.

pariah prophecy
a greek tragedy in five acts cd-r

andrew iafrate used to call himself pariah prophecy, and this is the pp record that factory r released. seamless rootsy pop that recalls elliot smith, crooked fingers, and bright eyes, and animated by a revolutionary spirit. don’t even think about passing this up. (questionable availability at this time. do ask, though. please inquire.)

split cd-r

five new songs from two significant west virginia songwriters. this time around, mikey’s are more stripped down and thematically to-the-point, with nods to elliott smith, nick drake, et al. mostly. sean’s songs blend acoustic and electric guitars to weave tunes that recall the beatles and elvis costello. a cd-r wrapped in strange colorful politicized artwork to make the jingoist cringe. freedom fries, indeed. the cd-r version is now out of print. you can download this release, though, at www.downloadpunk.com.
